Sheltered Housing Update
Tenants First to provide sheltered housing wardens in Aberdeen
From 1st December 2008 Tenants First will directly employ our own sheltered housing wardens at our three developments in Aberdeen (Aboyne Terrace, Bressay Brae and Park Street).
This step will allow the Co-operative to provide all our sheltered housing members with in-house warden services for the first time.
Following consultation with members, a daytime service will remain in place at Bressay Brae, whilst a new part time service will be provided at Aboyne Terrace and Park Street. This will also see the weekly cost of the warden service reducing from £19.70 per week to £11.48 per week.
Although we will be providing our own service to our own members, Aberdeen City Council will still fund the service and will also charge those members who are required to pay.
The Co-operative will provide more information to members in sheltered housing in the run up to the new service starting
And a thank you from Tenants First
Aberdeen City Council is phasing out sheltered housing wardens and because of this, the three permanent wardens at our developments in Aberdeen are retiring.
Jan McKinnon (Bressay Brae), Mhorag Thomson (Aboyne Terrace) and Maimie Kidd (Park Street) have provided many years of dedicated service to our members. But not only that, they are also members of the Co-operative.
In order to mark their retirement and thank them for their dedicated service the Co-operative held a presentation for the three staff at the AGM on 9th September 2008.
Co-operative Chairperson, Martin van der Lee, paid tribute to the wardens and thanked them for their dedicated service to the Co-operative’s most vulnerable members.
