GO Photo Competition : The Spirit of Volunteering

Grampian Opportunities (GO) has chosen Volunteers’ Week 2008 to showcase entries to the GO Photo Competition designed to capture “The Spirit of Volunteering”. Over seventy photographs have been entered and the exhibition provides a true reflection of the enormous amount volunteers contribute to the communities in which we live, the environment and individuals. Winners in both the adult and under sixteen sections will be announced during the week and prizes of digital cameras supported by Bucksburn based Online Electronics will be presented in addition to the certificates of achievement.
Volunteers' Week is the UK's annual celebration of volunteers. From 1-7 June, groups across the country hold events to recognise and reward their existing volunteers and to recruit new ones.
GO has benefited from a Voluntary Action Fund Jubilee Award giving them the opportunity to recognise and celebrate volunteer activity by showcasing the photographs in the gallery area of the Acorn Centre. “We felt the gallery within the newly refurbished hospitality area at the West Church in Inverurie was an ideal venue. The atmosphere at the centre is accessible and the welcome provided by the staff and the many volunteers involved there is first class.” said Linda Singer, development worker with Grampian Opportunities.
“I volunteer to share my experience and volunteering brings me happiness and fulfillment” said Andy one of GO’s volunteers. Denise, another GO volunteer said “My picture was taken by another GO volunteer and is part of the exhibition titled “A Happy GO Volunteer” for me volunteering enhances my life and I hope in turn makes a difference to others.”
