Co-operative Adopts LGBT Standards

Last year we told you that the Co-operative had taken part in a pilot project to look at issues affecting LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender) people. Like everyone, LGBT people want to be safe in their homes and communities and not be subject to intimidation or harassment.

At Tenants First we are committed through our Equal Opportunities Strategy to make sure that all our tenant members and other customers receive an equally high service from us. We are pleased to be able to let you know that the Co-operative has now formally adopted the LGBT Housing Standards which have been produced from the pilot project.

Through the standards we are making a commitment to:

  • Adopting a zero-tolerance approach to homophobia and transphobia;
  • Making sure that our employment practices are LGBT inclusive;
  • Making sure our services can be accessed by LGBT people;
  • Making sure that the way we deliver our services is LGBT inclusive;
  • Engaging with LGBT people, groups and organisations

We will be looking at our services to make sure they meet the requirements of the standards.

We want to ensure that all our service users have the trust and confidence in us to deal sensitively and appropriately with any issues or problems they may have related to sexuality and gender.
