Update your TV Licence when moving home

TV Licensing, working with Tenants First Housing Co-operative, would like to ensure that all new homeowners are aware that their TV Licence does not automatically move when they do.

Many people do not realise that if they don’t notify TV Licensing of their new address, they could end up being unlicensed - even if they had a licence at their old home – and if caught watching TV without a licence could be fined up to £1,000. Put simply, you need to be covered by a valid TV Licence to receive or record television programmes as they are being broadcast. This is the case whether you are receiving the programmes via TV or any other device, such as a mobile phone or a PC.

As new homeowners, you can easily update your details, either by logging on to www.tvlicensing.co.uk or by calling 0300 790 6037 and following the instructions. You will be asked for your TV Licence number and your new address. It only takes a minute or two to transfer the licence, and then you’ll be licensed to watch TV in your new home.
