Potentially Disadvantaged Groups

It is widely recognised that the choice based lettings (CBL) allocation system could disadvantage certain groups which include:

bullet

very elderly or infirm

bullet

people with learning difficulties

bullet

people with lack of literacy

bullet

recent migrants and others with a limited command of English

bullet

People with limited access to the internet

To maximise access to housing and to protect the interests of those who might face particular difficulties using CBL, the Co-operative has in place a number of mechanisms which include , but are not limited to:

bullet

provision of personal assistance in navigating the application process

bullet

provision of a dedicated Ethnic Minority Outreach Worker

bullet

contacting applicants with the highest award (gold pass) if no interest in a property has been made within a set time

bullet

direct mailing of vacant properties to applicants and agencies

bullet

facility to translate allocation information into other languages

bullet

information on vacant properties advertised via phone

bullet

proxy bidding by advocates, family members etc.
