Young
Tenants Pilot Project
This
is being developed by Tenants First along with Community Learning &
Development and Aberdeenshire Literacies Partnership.
The aim of the project is to identify the issues for young people
within their tenancy and to look at ways of offering support.
We cannot do this without the help of tenants though and so we
would like to bring tenants together to share their experiences of what
works and what doesn’t. We
will be having a drop in session at suppertime shortly - food and crèche
facilities will be provided. Although
this is a valuable project, we plan to have some fun as well.
If you are interested, or for more information contact Sheila
Erridge, Community Development Officer on 01779 474282.
The
Terrace Bring and Buy Success
Residents in Aboyne
Terrace/Place have set up a Residents Association in order to help provide
more social activities for the residents.
A Bring and Buy Sale with tearoom was held in the summer – there
was a steady stream of people throughout the day and just over £200 was
raised. They plan to use some
of the money to buy flowers for tenants who are in hospital.
They are holding a regular tea and buttery morning and they are
currently planning a carol singing night and Christmas lunch.
Tarts
and Crafts
An
innovative new community craft shop and café has just opened in Balmedie,
in an old cottage situated behind the library.
This provides a much needed community facility for our Balmedie
tenants and the wider community. This project is funded by Direct Grants
and Aberdeenshire Council and run as part of Elllon LETS (Local Exchange
Trading System)—where members from all over Ellon buy and sell goods and
services in a local currency called Aikens.
They also trade in pounds sterling.
They are keen to hear from local people who would like to volunteer
their time working in the café or people willing to do some gardening
work. People are also
invited to take part in craft courses or sell their goods in the shop.
Bennachie
Tenant Management Board, part of the structure of management of Tenants
First Housing Co-operative, are supporting this project and have given £200
towards this project which was gratefully received and which enabled them
to purchase a wood burning stove. Tenants First Housing Co-operative are
very much in support of local community projects like this and the
Community Development Team are assisting the project managers to apply for
additional sources of funding in order to provide a community garden with
play park and an outdoor craft and complimentary health workshop area next
summer.
