This
section
gives information
about
insurance issues
relating to the Co-operative properties and your responsibilities as a
tenant. Full
details
can be obtained from our offices in
Aberdeen
and Peterhead. You may also find some useful information in our Property
Management area of our Policies section.
The
Co-operative insures its properties against the normal perils such as
fire, flood, impact, malicious damage, escape of water, etc.
This
does not cover any of the Tenants personal belongings, nor any
decoration or improvements carried out by the tenant. The Co-operative strongly
recommends that all tenants obtain their own Contents Insurance to
avoid any financial loss in the event of an insured event (such as a
fire). Click here to view details of the Scottish
Federation of Housing Associations Diamond Insurance Scheme.
Questions
& Answers |

Q
There was a leak from some pipe work and my ceiling and decoration has
been damaged. Will the Co-operative fix this? |
|
A
The Co-operative will repair the leak and once suitably dried,
the ceiling will also be repaired. The damaged decoration will not be
repaired/redone by the co-operative and should be referred to your
contents insurer, if you have cover. |
|
Q
My home has been broken into and damage done to the property will
this be fixed. |
|
A
Yes, the Co-operative will secure your property and carry out
necessary repairs. However you must report the incident to the Police
and provide us with their Crime Reference Number. Otherwise we have to
assume you caused the damage and recharge you. |
|
Q
The property above me has leaked several times, damaging my
decoration. Who is responsible for repairing this? |
|
A
Unfortunately you are. You should advise the owner of the
property above you of the problem and advise us also. |
|
Q
The contractor damaged some of my property when they were doing a
repair. Who us responsible for this. |
|
A
Contractor’s will take all reasonable care when they are doing
a repair, but some damage to your property or decoration may be
unavoidable. If this is the case neither the Contractor nor the
Co-operative is liable for the damage. You should take all reasonable
precautions to make your own property safe.
